    About World Water Week and SIWI

    Our SIWI partners recommend following seminars:

    1. From Poster to PowerPoint to Pod Cast: Reaching the Public with Meaningful Visual Information about Water, Drainage Basins and the Hydrologic Cycle. Convenor: Watershed Media Project

    Rivers and lakes, as with most surface water, are easily seen. Groundwater, deep oceans, the water sequestered in plants and flows of atmospheric water are not as easily perceived. With the most recent developments in sensing and visualisation, many more people can understand and interpret these important parts of the hydrologic cycle. The side event will show and discuss a number of short (1-5 minute) films about water, intended to be disseminated primarily over the internet to an international audience. The many uses of these films will be discussed, including how the films can be made useful for the water community in the dissemination of essential knowledge about water to stakeholders and the general public.

    2. The contribution of life sciences to the Millennium Development Goals. Convenor: The World Life Sciences Forum (BioVision)

    The World Life Sciences Forum BIOVISION addresses the life sciences contribution to the compelling issues of our time. It is a biennial, high level international platform for dialogue, debate and recommendations for action held in Lyon, France. The theme of the next Forum in March 2007 will be “The Contribution of Life Sciences to the Millennium Development Goals”. The issue of water will be an important part of environment track. The purpose of the BioVision event is to take a proactive approach to open the doors to co-operation and collaboration with BioVision and participants and organisations attending Water World Week in order to further action oriented goals and agendas.

    3. Water, Films and Cultural Diversity. Convenors: French Water Academy, International Secretariat for Water and Comision Nacional del Agua (CONAGUA, Mexico)

    The French Water Academy and the International Secretariat for Water (ISW) are happy to co-organise, in collaboration with the CONAGUA, a side event on “Water, Films and Cultural Diversity”, as a follow-up of the first International Water and Film Event, which took place in Mexico City, in March 2006, during the 4th World Water Forum. The side event has three main goals:
    -   to present the films awarded in Mexico city, especially the short awareness-raising films and spots;
    -   to discuss about the importance of organising such cultural and unusual events in the framework of international conferences dedicated to water issues, in order to bring together the public at large, NGOs, water experts and scientists, medias and films specialists; and
    -   to create a network of people (film directors, water expert, etc.) interested in water and films.
